Southend Community Forum

SCF structure diagram

Organised through SAVS (the Southend Association of Voluntary Services), community and voluntary groups and individuals from across Southend get together to exchange ideas and discuss current issues with invited guest speakers.

With the greater reliance being placed on the community and voluntary sector to support and develop social infrastructure, funding is now more likely to be secured by groups working together in partnership rather than by those acting alone.
Groups working together are also likely to have greater influence, be more successful and to have a stronger presence on statutory working parties and local government consultative bodies.

The Forum enables community groups to work together to develop and improve services. Focus groups - e.g. for Youth, Older People, Carers, Ethnic Minorities, Tenants & Residents, etc - send representatives to the Community Forum. The Forum acts as a focal point for common interests, determines common strategies, pools resources, shares knowledge and seeks to have a greater influence through a collective voice.
  • Register your group with the Forum by contacting SAVS at 29-31 Alexandra Street, Southend, SS1 1BW or telephone 01702-356000

Southend Compact

Representatives from a range of voluntary and community groups in Southend have been working in partnership with Southend-on-Sea Borough Council and other public organisations, including the Police and Southend Primary Care Trust (PCT), to develop a Compact for the Borough.

A Compact is an agreement between the parties as to how they will work together to improve their relationship for mutual advantage and the benefit of residents.
If you are involved or interested in community and voluntary sector organisations in Southend, then here's your opportunity to have your say about building better relationships with public agencies and how we can work better together for the benefit of local people.

The draft Compact has now been released for consultation and individuals and groups are invited to review the draft and comment on its contents. The consultation period will end on 29 April 2005 and details of how to participate in the consultation can be obtained through the contacts identified below.

  • A copy of the draft Compact can be downloaded from the Council's website at www.southend.gov.uk. Alternatively further information and copies can be obtained through either
